Japanese businessmen show stable interest in developing Russian natural resources. However, bilateral economic relations in the Russian Far East are not realized to the full capacity, as Japanese companies' roles in regional projects are limited to supplying industrial equipment. The paper examines international political factors which lead to this situation. It also assesses possibilities and perspectives of Japanese businessmen to be included into implementation of regional policy in the Russian Far East.
